Lorikeet in Downward Dive

Irene Manion

Size: 30cm x 41.8cm
Framed under glass 44 x 54cm
Watercolour on Arches

One of the fastest fliers, Rainbow lorikeets flit past on invisible paths that take them from one food source to the next at incredibly high speed. They often fly at speeds of over 50 kilometres per hour. Capturing them in flight at these speeds requires luck and a very fast shutter speed of 1/4000th of a second.

In this piece I have taken a step beyond my regular watercolours and have incorporated stitch.
