Conversation with the Artists & Gallery Tour

Very happy to present this group exhibitions with 10 esteemed artists from around the country, and it’s all about houses and buildings – a very topical subject at the moment!

Home Delivery: A collection of houses inspired art is focused on depictions of houses and other dwelling places, reflecting a diversity of physical structures – from lone houses surrounded by nature, to buildings in urban and suburban settings. The exhibition gives rise to thoughts of home as a social construct, idea or state of mind. Drawn from life, memory, imagination, or from sources such as films, books, newspapers and magazines, the artworks in the exhibition are bound to reveal a variety of human presences and traces of activity.

Professor Nicole Gurran, Urban Planner, The University of Sydney, School of Architecture, Design and Planning, agreed to open the show and will engage in a short discussion about her interests in Australian architectures, houses and buildings across the country.

Spoiler alert – Nicole is also an artist and passionate about Australia’s architecture, and has some pieces in the show.

Hawkesbury artist Greg Hansell recently launched his beautiful book, and we have recently become stockists. The book titled “Greg Hansell: The Purity of Australian Light” will be for sale at the opening and signed. If you wish to purchase a copy Greg will have some extras signed and they are available for sale during the exhibition. The book is beautifully presented and would make a wonderful coffee table collection or lovely gift. Greg also has some of his amazing artwork in the exhibition.

This collection generates a warmth and appeal in several ways by tapping into themes that resonate with people on a personal and emotional level. It should appeal to a broad audience and create a memorable and engaging experience for visitors. From childhood homes, to holiday homes, dream homes and haunted houses, these artworks tease apart the idea of the house as a place not only of physical shelter but also one in which to fix or locate particular memories or states of being.

Houses, with their unique architecture and intricate details, possess an inherent beauty that captivates the soul. Each house tells a story, reflecting the creativity and ingenuity of those who designed and built it. From cosy cottages to modern skyscrapers, houses stand as symbols of human civilization and the pursuit of shelter and comfort.

In art, houses serve as powerful motifs that convey a sense of home, belonging, and identity. Artists throughout history have been drawn to the charm of houses, using them as subjects in paintings, drawings, and sculptures. The portrayal of houses in art allows us to explore themes of domesticity, community, and the passage of time.

Embracing houses in art enables us to appreciate the beauty of everyday life and the significance of our living spaces. Through artistic expressions of houses, we celebrate the diversity of architectural styles, the warmth of home, and the memories woven into the walls of each building. Houses remind us of our roots, our dreams, and our interconnectedness with the world around us.

In conclusion, we should embrace houses in art for their ability to inspire, comfort, and evoke a sense of nostalgia. By capturing the essence of houses in creative works, we honour the essence of human existence and the profound impact of our built environment on our lives.
