They are rich in colour and texture and literally dance across the canvas. Many of the paintings evoke emotional responses and awe, particularly because they are so beautiful and detailed – especially the leaf detail in this series. But also, because they seem to have a sort of allure that affects the viewer which keeps them totally interested and takes inspiration from Hiren’s journeying around the countryside. Many of the studies for his paintings can be seen in small sketch books that outline in both painting and in words, the ideas and details pertaining to individual sights and compositions. It has often been my delight to scour through these delightful pages and gain some insight into Hiren’s inner world and the concepts and ideas that initiate his masterly works.
