We are thrilled to be presenting this much anticipated solo show by artist and musician Rachel Hannan. The exhibition will be her first here since moving further west to the beautiful countryside around the Capertee Valley. Music and art are inseparable for Rachel. “In the landscape and in my paintings, I hear melodies in the unpredictability of forms, colour and movement. I feel the rhythms of the repetition and patterns in the natural architecture and the never ending abundance of different flora, water, clouds and surfaces. I bring the visual into my improvising when I sing, and similarly the music flows through my brush when I apply my marks”.

Artist and doctor Lucila Zentner presents a collection of exceptional, uniquely beautiful oil paintings that will captivate and inspire. Kate Nielsen and Antoinette Tyndall present a collection of paintings oozing elegance and sophistication. They are characterized by the artists’ ability to capture the quiet and subtle aspects of still life and contemporary interior scenes.

Drawing from real life, Julianne Allcorn makes very detailed, fine and focused studies of the insects, birds, flora and fauna in and around her bushland home – hidden and placed within the artwork to bring alive the conversations of the bush.

She is joined in this exhibition by naturalist artists Irene Manion and Julie Simmons.

Cultural shifts in the aesthetic appreciation of landscape have played an important role in our recognition and appreciation of contemporary landscape painting. This collection of paintings, by seventeen landscape painters from across the country, in Celebrating Contemporary Australian Landscape, highlights the way artists have tried to express the emotions the landscape arouses as well as the facts of its appearance. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

I started painting this body of work during the early winter months, when the rain was endless, but the rolling clouds and muted light were so utterly beautiful. As I set up my tablescapes and started mixing colours, my signature shades of pink, coral and amber began to deepen and those moody grey hues in the sky found their way onto my paintbrush.

Being kept inside by the weather and giving myself plenty of preparation time allowed a lot of energy to go into each brushstroke, and I enjoyed generously lathering on the paint. Many of my treasured household objects and books feature, as they always do, my favourite piece of ikat has reappeared and I loved mixing wild banksias with the season’s glorious roses, tulips, irises, sunflowers and poppies.

Rachel’s landscapes feature her favourite Blue Mountains places that have been transformed after the fires and rains, painted in her thick, energetic impasto style that mimics the wild, windy precipices within a few kilometres of her home.”Painting these rhythmic forms and dancing foliage is endlessly fascinating to me ”
