Winterly: Melanie Vugich ~ 8th to 30th of October

Winterly: Melanie Vugich ~ 8th to 30th of October

I started painting this body of work during the early winter months, when the rain was endless, but the rolling clouds and muted light were so utterly beautiful. As I set up my tablescapes and started mixing colours, my signature shades of pink, coral and amber began to deepen and those moody grey hues in the sky found their way onto my paintbrush.

Being kept inside by the weather and giving myself plenty of preparation time allowed a lot of energy to go into each brushstroke, and I enjoyed generously lathering on the paint. Many of my treasured household objects and books feature, as they always do, my favourite piece of ikat has reappeared and I loved mixing wild banksias with the season’s glorious roses, tulips, irises, sunflowers and poppies.

Rachel Hannan: Cliffs and Dancing Wildflowers ~ 3rd to 25th of September

Rachel Hannan: Cliffs and Dancing Wildflowers ~ 3rd to 25th of September

Rachel’s landscapes feature her favourite Blue Mountains places that have been transformed after the fires and rains, painted in her thick, energetic impasto style that mimics the wild, windy precipices within a few kilometres of her home.”Painting these rhythmic forms and dancing foliage is endlessly fascinating to me ”

Kay Wood: CLOUDBUSTER ~ 6th to 28th of August

Kay Wood: CLOUDBUSTER ~ 6th to 28th of August

With an increasing interest in, and reliance upon the sensory in art, the abstract element has become increasingly popular. A Western Australian artist whose work emerges from this field is Kay Wood. This exhibition is a showcase of her works that explore contemporary abstraction in art; an artist whose focus is primarily working within abstraction – paintings and objects with slight forays into figuration.

Kay suggests her work is mostly an experience in feeling the ‘thing’ or object without trying to illustrate with learnt techniques of representation. Labels are given up – the only thing of interest is investigating relationships between subject and object. “It’s not a cup that is representing, let’s say ‘the vessel’ or ‘emptiness’ or ‘domesticity’ – it is just a thing being looked at, by me at a particular moment in my life..

From Within: Kate Nielsen ~ 9th of July – 31st July

From Within: Kate Nielsen ~ 9th of July – 31st July

Kate’s landscape paintings portray nostalgic Australian vistas, and her interiors evoke universal familiar surroundings that elicit memories of small yet important moments in hers and our lives. They also hold the audience spellbound with their intense decoration and expressive use of colour.

Kobie Bosch: Tails and Fables ~ 4th – 27th June

Kobie Bosch: Tails and Fables ~ 4th – 27th June

Kobie’s paintings reveal her fascination with Australian wildlife and the concept of Home. They are sumptuous and colourful, with a subtle blend of whimsy and interior style. The integration of the external natural world with homely interiors creates places of beauty and boundless imagination, which remains central to Kobie’s work.

The magical fables embodied within each painting add another dimension to this exhibition, illustrating to some extent the historical, social and cultural processes that constitute Kobie’s contemporary paintings. Each fable coupled to its painting highlights Kobie’s originality and undisciplined thinking. What a joy!

Adam Galic: Where the creek meets the sea

I am thrilled to be presenting an exhibition of the calm and composed landscape paintings by Adam Galic. Adam creates meaningful conversations ilandscapes that communicate a love for nature and an increased awareness of the often unnoticed and unseen beauty all around us. He paints landscapes because he loves to do so. He paints with oils on canvas and his palette is soft, muted and untroubled. He used the recent lockdown periods to escape and create. The result is a collection worth visiting. I invite you to enjoy these exemplars of south coast landscape vistas.

Florescence: Group Show September 4 – September 26

Florescence: Group Show September 4 – September 26

Every spring, I am reminded of the influence that this nature-focused floral season continues to have on the art world. The vibrant blossoms of flowers have long provided artists with inspiration, with many dedicating their careers to producing still life, botanical studies, contemporary printmaking and ceramics. There’s a timeless sense of joy, hope, or even serenity that paintings of flowers can evoke. Florescence calls on twelve artists, one flower at a time, to examine fabulous blooms in spring – depicted by still life, floral gardens, decorative interiors and selected ceramic pieces. These works of art also shine a light on the role and importance of plants and flowers in everyday life, celebrating the rich tradition of floral art in Australia.
