Ileigh Hellier is an emerging artist from Newcastle. She was awarded the prize for the painting section of the Newcastle Emerging Artist Prize and was a finalist in the Biannual Brenda Clouten Memorial Travelling Scholarship. She completed a Diploma of Fine Arts at TAFE before graduating from Newcastle University with a Bachelor of Fine Art. During and since this time Ileigh has been painting her interpretation of the Australian Landscape. Upon completion of her degree she travelled extensively through parts of Australia to further inspire her work. Ileigh works using bright, sometimes unrealistic colours and simplified forms to capture feelings of the landscape and its uniqueness rather than depicting specific places. She employs techniques such as glazing and sgraffito to create textured, dynamic and playful paintings.
